Annual Kathleen M. Fenwick Memorial Lecture

OLD MASTERS PAINTING

The Netherlands Embassy is pleased to announce that Dutchman Dr. Ronald Spronk will be the annual Kathleen M. Fenwick Memorial guest lecturer at the National Gallery of Canada.  The lecture will be held in the lecture hall of the Gallery on November 8, 2007 at 6.30 pm.

Title of his lecture will be:

A TREASURE TROVE OF HIDDEN DRAWINGS:

Revealing Underdrawings and Creative Process in Old Master Painting

Dr. Ronald Spronk left his research post at the Harvard University Art Galleries to assume the Headship of the Art Department at Kingston’s Queen’s University (comprising the art history, studio and conservation departments).

Dr. Spronk is an art historian who relies heavily on the research tools and expertise of conservators. But whereas conservators generally perform technical examination in the interests of preserving and restoring works of art, Ron uses the same scientific methods to aid in his a very unusual style of art history.
